Right to Information Act

Introduction
The Right to Information Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in December 2004. It was passed by both houses of Parliament in May 2005. The assent of the President was received on 15th June and the Act was notified in The Gazette of India on 21st June. The Right to Information Act has become operational by the 12th October 2005 after the completion of 120 days from the date of Presidential assent. The Freedom of Information Act passed by Parliament in 2002 has been repealed.

Bringing Information to the Citizens :

Right to Information Act 2005 mandates timely response to citizen requests for government information. It is an initiative taken by Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions to provide a– RTI  Portal Gateway to the citizens for quick search of information on the details of first Appellate Authorities, PIOs   etc. amongst others, besides access to RTI related information / disclosures published on the web by various Public Authorities under the government of India as well as the State Governments.

(II) APPELLATE AUTHORITY

Joint Commissioner (Admn.) has been designated as First Appellate Authority to dispose off appeals preferred by the appellant against the information provided by the aforementioned Public Information Officers (PIOs) in cases related to NVS (Hqrs.).

There is no second appellate authority in the Samiti.
